Polyphemus Dreams

Polyphemus Dreams
1

Polyphemus Dreams, my tribute to the cyclops whom I consider to be my mythological comrade in arms. I was thrilled when I found the Polyphemus story in Ovid's Metamorphoses. Polyphemus embodies the part in any of us that has ever tried to love someone and not have it returned, be it because of lack of physical appeal or altogether brutishness. I described it before as akin to teen-angst. From my livejournal comment on the topic,

"Reading this was like being sixteen all over again. Dragging your heart over a bed of hot coals and refusing to leave until the last ember dims."

Gosh, I like purdy words!

If you're looking for a good mythology read, get into Metamorphosis. I'm partial to Melville's verse translation, if you haven't already noticed.
